Annette Haven is considered one of the most important adult stars in history and a star of the "Golden Age of Porn" from the late mid-70s to early 80s. Porn historian and director Bill Margold said she was the first great beauty to do adult movies. "She looked like a mainstream movie star and gave porn more of a polished appeal compared to the grimy girls of NYC". She starred in adult classics like Barbara Broadcast, 'V': The Hot One, and A Thousand and One Erotic Nights. These movies were more plot-driven and usually required more acting ability.

She said she was raised in a Mormon family and later claimed that part of her reason for entering porn was that she wanted to show that "sex is not sinful" and could be pleasurable. After her marriage dissolved, she moved to San Franciso, which was the capital of the Golden Age of Porn on the West Coast. She soon began stripping and appearing in clubs. There she met Bonnie Holiday, who was an early star in "loop" porn movies and helped establish Haven in the early adult industry. They quickly became lovers and soon entered into a three-way relationship with each other and Holiday's husband. The relationship would end after 3 years when Holiday became jealous, not only of Haven's huge success but also because Haven and her husband planned to continue the relationship without Holiday.

Haven would continue to work through the mid to late 1980s but was very picky with her roles and felt her later movies paled in compared to the plot-heavy movies she did in the 1970s and often bemoaned that porn died with the VHS tape.

Annette Haven is a member of the AVN and XRCO Hall of Fame.
